I don't know if Marc Maxwell lies a lot at City Council meetings, but he sure as hell does on Facebook.

.....when I noticed Cale McClure had fired this TPIA torpedo in the comments:

The Captain Obvious thing is it shows Maxwell wasn't being honest again. He was already trying to paint an innocent and rosy picture in a way that asked the reader to suspend basic human instinct and wisdom about how people are (and certainly political officials).

Now, layer in Nate (who last I checked worked for the City) doing a background on Jezebel Halvorsen prior to Maxwell's timeline of events. I don't know if this was personal or professional (most likely professional because it's a lawsuit search reimbursed by the City), but Smith clearly understands here that his girlfriend works for MSB.

The reality is it doesn't matter whether Maxwell or Smith were right in this case. Neither of them, nor anyone else on the council, disclosed the relationship or the nature of the introduction that led to the LOI they illegally rammed through without public notice.

Maxwell's view of conflicts-of-interest is flawed anyways. His reference point here is only shooting for the bare minimum. The sensible thing would be to disclose regardless, but that doesn't seem to be how he operates.

I'll talk about this in another post, but Smith, as a member of the Bar, also had an ethical obligation to disclose and recuse. Instead, he's still representing the City in a lawsuit that benefits a counterparty to a contract held by his client (the City) after he had an affair with one of the counterparty's principals. It's the kind of soap opera stuff that get's you fired in the real world.

Regardless, even if you use Maxwell's lowest bar, this document proves there was a conflict to disclose.

But don't worry though, Marc. If you still don't want to accept this as an example of corruption, we've got plenty more.
